February 2011

Visit the very first version of tarikhamilton.com! The earliest copy I found on Wayback Machine was dated February 1st, 2011. I'm forever grateful to be able to get a copy with all the images working and everything especially with how integral they were to the design.

The copyright in the footer says 2010, so I'm not sure of the exact date, but I have a vague sense of when according to old entries in my TiddlyWiki journal. I was at least a semester into community college, unemployed, and spending my spare time trying to build a few different apps with PHP.

It's awesome seeing that I was focused on accessibility and aesthetics back then. I'm a little disappointed that it's not mobile responsive when the iPhone came out in 2007, but I don't think I did much browsing even once I got my first smartphone. Responsive layouts probably wasn't on my radar quite yet.

I only had two actual websites to show off in my portfolio along with my corny copy. I actually find the copy a bit endearing. I had good intentions, but I didn't know much about marketing at the time.

I eventually got a work study job making $8.12/hr at my school, went through some rough times that required frequent moving, and focused on extracurriculars. I leveraged tech a few times where I could, but it mostly took a backseat to school and trying to survive.

I wish I kept up the momentum I had going on with learning to code. It wasn't until 2014 that I revisited coding again.
